Testing for a CDL

There are several different tests involved in the process of acquiring a CDL license. The first test that you will have to take is the CDL written test to obtain a learners permit to drive the type of vehicle that you plan to operate with your commercial drivers license. This test will consist of the general knowledge test, Air Brake Test, and combination vehicles test questions if you are getting a Class A Drivers License.

There will be several more tests while at a truck driver training school that you will need to pass to graduate from whatever training school you attend. You will need to pass a physical medical exam as well as a vision test and or a federal background check if you plan to haul hazmat with a hazardous materials endorsement.

The last test that you will have to take and pass is the road driving test with a state licensed CDL examiner at the end of your CDL training. This test will consist of a pre trip inspection, air brake tests, driving skills, and backing a truck. It will seem like your testing for a CDL is never ending process. To get and obtain a Class A Drivers license you will have to pass all of the tests with all the endorsements that you will need to operate your vehicle legally. Once you have your CDL you will have the ability to live anywhere you want and make money so it will be well worth the effort.
