A full pre trip inspection is to be performed at the beginning of each day for a truck driver. New trucking school students will spend hours practicing and learning all of the steps of the pre trip inspection test. There are several questions in the general knowledge test that pertain to performing this procedure and we have put up an additional 20 questions in our CDL pre trip test.
When taking your road exam with a state licensed CDL examiner you will have to perform a complete pre trip inspection including all of the in cab air brake tests. The general order of this inspection is the following. ENGINE COMPARTMENT, VEHICLE FRONT, VEHICLE SIDE, TRACTOR/TRUCKREAR, TRAILER FRONT, COUPLING DEVICE, TRAILER SIDE, TRAILER REAR AXLE, TRAILER REAR, VEHICLE LIGHTS, INSIDE VEHICLE, BRAKE SYSTEM CHECK.
You need to know what to check in each of these areas and be able to say what you are checking and looking at out load for the examiner to here. You must pass this part of the CDL exam to even be able to get to the driving portion of the test. If you are planning to go to a trucking school it is never too early to start studying all of this information and to practice the best you can without a tractor trailer to use.
